Which are some of the good quality jeans manufacturers in the Globe?

I regularly get emails from people intention to start their own fashion companies and asking that whether I help them find a good supplier for jeans. Believe it or not finding a good jeans supplier is probably the first biggest challenge when starting a fashion company, second only to successfully wholesaling your jeans brand. Many of production nightmares starts from choosing the not right supplier, and now I am pretty sure that a consistent and reliable jeans supplier is essential to start a fashion company.

Pakistan made Jeans manufacturers

Basically, you can’t really start selling jeans, or even promoting your company without solid fashion manufacturing company , unless you plan on making the jeans production runs yourself. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the fashion garment samples you show to buyers must be close to identical to the ones you will be delivering when they place an denim jeans order. If you are making refined acid washed skinny jeans, you need to make sure that you can find a good washing company who will be able to make them as nicely as you can make them in your studio for photo shoot sample . Secondly, you cannot calculate the cost of garment without making sample the only way knowing how much it will cost in one pair of jeans production. you should need to develop one proto type samples for this you need good company, it will cause a disaster if choosing wrong company . You generally can’t have idea how much it will cost in production, and you must have accurate one pair of jeans unit price to properly calculate your wholesale or retail prices of garment.

So here are the few steps I would highly recommend you go through, if you are looking to start your own fashion branded company, and need to find supplier for bulk production.

1. first of all determine your product’s price point. If you are planing to be making jeans and you want them to sell in stores for around $49.99 (which means you have to sell them to stores for $24.99-$29.99 ), then you’ll have to be looking overseas (most probably in Asia) for bulk production. But the problem is that initially you need to struggle to get the best price you want, so figure this out and work backwards. please keep in mind that sometimes your margins need to be a bit lower at the starting because your quantities will be smaller and you are trying to launch new brand in the market .

2. Decide about where you’d like the product made. Chances are, the price will in some way dictate this, but if it is a priority (eg. part of your concept is producing locally), then this could be step 2. For The Sleep T Shirt, we wanted the product made in Pakistan, so I researched suppliers here, and knew my margins would be low at the beginning, because my quantities are so small. If you are open to various options, then research as many as possible. Many people tend to think Pakistan garment supplier offer cheap price and high quality products. Yes they are, but you will need to calculate out if you can take relatively a little bit longer delivery times by sea.

3. Start to research apparel suppliers worldwide. This seems to tough job. but pls try few manufacturers are easy to find online, so might chance to grab good ones even have proper websites. Here are a few tips:

*Ask them. If you have contacts in the textile industry, find out who they use.

*Talk to your suppliers (if you have anyone ) You may have already sourced some fabrics, materials, trims, so ask those contacts if they have any recommendations.

*Online apparel company searches its quite difficult, and SO many to sort through the process, but try might found good jeans manufacture this way.

*Try other industry sources: trade magazines, websites, tradeshows, etc… tend to have information on manufacturing process. You need to be a detective here, but sometimes it can be worth it.

4. Communicate with your supplier. Once you have a finalized of potential jean supplier, you need to contact them and find out if they are right for your needs, and whether they are willing to work with new company and offer small order production . Note that you should not approach them with the frame of mind “I am a customer” because suppliers are difficult to work with and good ones are PRECIOUS. Approach them with the polite tone of “I am a great starting company and we would get mutual benefit if you’d be willing to work with me.” Here are a few questions to ask:

*Are they taking new customers ?

*What kind of products do they produce and expert?

*What markets do they work for, USA, EUROPE , Gulf, England ?

*Where do they manufacture jeans fashion basic (some companies may be based one place, but manufacture somewhere else.)

*What are average prices they offer (for eg. Certain region will have a certain average clothing prices for some textile item. If your target price are not doable in that area, just look for another apparel supplier somewhere else. However should be noticed, if low price on other area can’t match the average quality you want, just go back to that professional Jeans manufacturer one or give up this projects.)

*What services do they provide to customer ? Can they do patterns making grading , embroidery, grading, develop samples, do fabric sourcing, packaging, shipping etc… As a smaller company in start, it often makes sense to source these things through the manufacturing or trading company, as they may have experience better buying power and sourcing power, and therefore you will get better services. (On that lighter note, they will absolutely add a commission to the item they source, but it will save your lot of time and trouble in dealing with textile factories since many factories do not have access to deal in English and also limited by already busy business productions, which means late feedback.

*What are their minimums order quantities per style ? Don’t just ask number of pieces(MOQ), ask about whether this MOQ is for per style, color, and size. For example, a company that has a minimum of 500~300 pieces per order is not much, while a clothing company that does 500`300 per piece per colour per size is a absolutely good for starting company.

*Do they have payment terms for companies? What are their payment terms? More on this below list.

*Are they capable for bigger quantities production? You may only need 500~ 1000 pieces at the beginning, but what if you get an order for 5000~ 10,000 order ? Can this garment supplier fulfill an order of that size?

*If you are happy with most of the answers to the above questions, it is time to try this supplier.

5. Therefore you must have tech-packs. Ok, now everything is ready for previous research work, you have to send them drawings, technical sheets, fabric swatches, size charts, AI or vector diagram for printing etc. its necessary and ask them to look it over and tell you whether they think it is something they can make or any suggestion/amendment to this style. Remind them of your required order quantities. You should also give them a rough jeans price target idea (if you know what is reasonable cost of this pare of denim basic five pocket jeans pant ) and ask them whether it will be possible for them to produce jeans at your target price, and if not, what it would be the best unit price for this denim jeans pant. They should be able calculate the price based on materials and style to get back to you about this quite quickly if they have all required information , usually a expert jeans supplier knows quickly whether it will be something they can easily make or not.

The U.S.A is the denim famous jeans forefather of the world. If you can’t afford the high price from USA, Pakistan is the best place for extremely high quality blue black white jeans with competitive on price(compared with jeans price of US).

6. Negotiate payment terms. If you basically think this supplier is worthwhile for a first order, you’ll need to clearly negotiate or at least agree on prices and terms. Basically you’ll have very limited negotiating power at the beginning you must know that you need FOB prices or CIF , but you need to grow and be confident that in future you will be able to have the prices and terms you desire(which is very important factor). Be reminded , if order quantities are just around the supplier’s MOQ, prices are probably to go high side, which means profit margins will be low. But make sure that you get an idea of what prices will be like when orders are bigger than MOQ. For example, if you want to pay $5.99 per t-shirt or $12.99 for jeans, but they are charging you $7.99 for T-shirt and $14.99 for jeans in an order of 300~500 pieces, pls make sure that when you order 5000 or 10000 that the price will be lowered to your target price.

7. Check your calendars and their reserve time. If you do think the supplier you choose is doable, pls make sure they are available for helping you go on with your business. Just to give them a general estimate of when to collect and their bulk production time. Then, make sure the supplier has a rough idea of your quantities and schedule, and that they will have time to produce your collection. Get this in writing!

8. Have them make and cost a sample.Ok, since the schedule is fixed. You can send them a pattern, fabric (if you have, if not pls provide the pictures or tell them what exactly is the fabric), and an original sample (if you have one) and they can make you a first prototype. This is the best way to check their quality, efficiency and proficiency, and this also gives them the opportunity to properly price the item. If there are any changes needed to the sample, get them to produce another one. And make sure your technical sheets are 100% accurate, any error on tech packs is devouring, because that waists time and money, harass the fixed schedule and finally kills the project.

9. Get your sample collection made. Everything went smoothly and you will now ready to order your sample collection, which will be the garments you use to show the end-customers, retailers, distributors or eventually, the media.

10. Sell your collection. This is the most difficult part besides of having your own collection! Best wishes to you!

11. Put it into production! Now you have some orders at hand, or if you are selling the product yourself, just place the order! Place an order, and don’t forget to regularly follow up with the supplier. Tell them to constantly updates the bulk production status. They often need hand holding, so check in once a week or so, and make sure they are on schedule.

TIPS:

*Just don’t give up on searching for a new back up supplier! Not business lasts forever because any business can go bankrupt in some days. Make sure you have some backup suppliers on the database and the contact. Document all the manufacturers you have contacted, and what the result was. Maybe they make a product that is already cheap for you, but you may want them lower the price when you offer a lower-priced option. Or perhaps their minimums are too large, but in theory your quantities will grow and you will always want a supplier that can do larger quantities for you.

*Evaluate them as you go. Do they use business emails? Available by the phones? Are they quick to get back to you in instant chatting tools like Whatsapp, Messanger, Wechat or Skype? If I get someone who is impossible to contact or who rarely responds to emails, then I get concerned. Integrity and reliability is keywords for a manufacturer, and if they are slow in responding or late with their first set of samples, you should be listening to the alarm bells.

*It is really important that the communication between you and the supplier is easy. Do they speak your language? Are the time zones close enough that you can speak to them during their business hours, without having to be up at 4 in the morning?(It would be great if they can sacrifice their time to cooperate with you in their late nights.)

*Signing a contract with the supplier! However, this is very difficult and complicated. Many won’t, and even if they do, the contract will likely not be valid the paper its presents. That’s why integrity is important in these situations, you need to make sure the person you trust to do the job is loyal and honest when they say they will. Last but not least, you need to make sure that you have kept records of EVERYTHING, so that you can reference it should there be a problem down the line.
